I heard somebody say back in July this year that tradition is what we hold to when we aren't sure what else to do to make a certain time special: rites of passage, mourning, celebration, hoidays. Those words have held onto me up to present. I feel like we do need traditions to help us feel closure to certain times in our lives or to feel like we have celebrated someone in a worthy manner and thats okay, thats good, but when the tradition becomes more important than the event or person...well it just gets ugly.
P.G. this Christmas:
hold loosely to tradition
hold tightly to the ones I love
celebrate exactly what we are trying to celebrate
