Internet Hunt

Let it flow last night with YouTube videos and trivia. This can be therapeutic for sure. Above is one of the fruits. Also some cool facts about Bruce Lee's physical capabilities:

* Lee's striking speed from three feet with his hands down by his side reached five hundredths of a second.[63]

* Lee's combat movements were at times too fast to be captured on film for clear slow motion replay using the traditional 24 frames per second of that era, so many scenes were shot in 32 frame per second for better clarity.[64][65][66]

* In a speed demonstration, Lee could snatch a dime off a person's open palm before they could close it, and leave a penny behind.[67]

* Lee would hold an elevated v-sit position for 30 minutes or longer.[61]

* Lee could throw grains of rice up into the air and then catch them in mid-flight using chopsticks.[55]

* Lee could thrust his fingers through unopened cans of Coca-Cola. (This was when soft drinks cans were made of steel much thicker than today's aluminum cans).[68]

* Lee performed one-hand push-ups using only the thumb and index finger.[55][62][69]

* Lee performed 50 reps of one-arm chin-ups.[70]

* Lee could break wooden boards 6 inches (15 cm) thick.[71]

* Lee could cause a 200-lb (90.72 kg) bag to fly towards and thump the ceiling with a sidekick.[62]

* Lee performed a sidekick while training with James Coburn and broke a 150 lb (68 kg) punching bag.[61][72]

* In a move that has been dubbed "Dragon Flag", Lee could perform leg lifts with only his shoulder blades resting on the edge of a bench and suspend his legs and torso horizontal midair.[73]

Rocket Docs

Broke down and hit up the ol' rocket doc via my work friend's request. Is this a sign I have too much time on my hands?

Why I Stopped Multi-Tasking

I learned how to multi-task as a barista at starbucks. Steam milk, prep syrups, draw shots, mark cups, pour drinks, refill stuff, erase drive through screen, call out drink, fill cups and so on...

I liked the way things went, I got faster and faster and the customers were happy.

But it didn't work this way at home. I got more and more stressed and got less and less done. A guy from my old church, Corey, suggested on one of his blogs that multi-tasking didn't work. I was doubtful.

He was right.

Speed reading is good but there are times I need to soak each word. Task-mastering is sometimes efficient but not effective at home when you're supposed to be resting.

So I've been drying my dishes, untying my shoes before I put them on, pouring juice before taking a swig, putting the sandwich on a plate and then eating it, holding my children, fully stopping at stop signs, only clicking once on internet links, reading my friend's longer blog posts ;), and even more thinking about more ways to slow it down after work.

"I had a Big Wheel!"

Did you have a Big Wheel? I did! I vividly remember riding around, flipping my pedals, trying to drive with the handle backwards, turning it over on its back and spinning the front wheel like a mechanics of sorts, scrubbing it with care alongside my parents as they washed their cars on a Saturday morning. If you had a Big Wheel you loved it. And you know it because every time anyone mentions them you must respond...... "I had a Big Wheel!" Big Wheel riders must express the love we had for our Big Wheels. And why not? They are awesome!

Tomorrow is Rose's third birthday and we stayed up tonight assembling her gift. We are excited to welcome her to The Family of Big Wheels tomorrow! So, give a shout out if you had a Big Wheel!

Little Chef

Rose spends most of her play-time in make-believe. This is her zone...in her mind the cups are filled with feasts. When she plays she imitates her favorite show: howdini (got) com.

"If you want to add some cocoanut...dat's fine..if you don't want to ....dat's fine."

Last night she got an early birthday present from Gammy: an Easy-Bake oven =) Cookies were so good.

More chef pics to come!...

Leo Woods

Leo has found his passion.

Following behind us today, holding his "lioney" (stuffed lion) like a boom box, the young toddler was in his element: on the green.

The putting green - at Franky's Fun Park.

He got in for free, but he takes his game seriously. Flushed cheeks, stoic eyes, pacifier clenched in his teeth, he was a trooper even through the back nine. Sometimes slicing at both his AND his sister's ball, he made the holes look like vacuum cleaners.

Actually, he just whined a lot because it was really sunny. But we let him walk around a little bit so he was kind of a moving obstacle.

But Leo Woods...I like the sound of that.

"Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point." C. S. Lewis.

I looked up the word courage today. Here are the two definitions I found.

courage: a quality of spirit that enables you to face danger or pain without showing fear.

courage: the ability to confront fear, pain, danger, risk, uncertainty, or intimidation.

To me the ability to confront fear is very different than facing danger or pain and showing no fear. And guess what I found out, I was right! Turns out courage has been broken down and studied in many forms. The three forms of courage are physical, moral, and social. So the simple differing of definitions I stumbled across are actually defining physical courage versus moral courage

Physical courage: is courage in the face of physical pain, hardship, or threat of death.

Moral courage: is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, or discouragement.

I need courage. We all do. I am praying and seeking after the courage to love others. I'm being taught loving others doesn't mean much until you put it to action.

I hope.
I love.
I try.
I try again.
and again.
I hope.
